ADA AUSTRALIA Working With Electrogroup Apprentices

The ADA facilitation team recently travelled to Queensland to deliver the first of many BEST LIFE: BEST WORK Apprenticeship Development Programs for Electrogroup.

Electrogroup Apprentices (EGA) is a Group Training Organisation whose core business is to recruit, employ and train electrical apprentices for careers in the electrotechnology sector, placing each trainee with reputable industry Host Employers.

Impressively, thanks to the provision of ongoing mentoring and support by EGA’s trade-qualified field staff, 97% of EGA apprentices successfully complete their training.

Elsewhere, across the trades, there are some alarmingly high dropout rates among apprentices. Most apprentices, coming straight out of school, face a whole new and unfamiliar world. Workplace stress and tension, long hours, lack of support and bullying can be just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the challenges for apprentices, and that all workers face, particularly when new to an industry.

Of course, stress and tension can elevate the risk of anxiety and depression, and also of turning to negative coping mechanisms like substance use or gambling. We believe that building resilience and awareness around the challenges of work and life is a really important part of apprentice and ‘ready-for-work’ training.

This is where ADA Australia’s BEST LIFE: BEST WORK Program can help. This training is designed to address the challenges faced by new or younger workers that can undermine careers and wellbeing.

This training is to equip younger workers with strategies to deal with workplace pressures – as well as after-hours pressures (relationships and personal concerns, even managing ‘partying’ and wellbeing around alcohol and drugs).
